Letter from Bridget Arend

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

It is with mixed feelings that I share the news that I will be leaving the OTL towards the end of the fall quarter. I have had an amazing time working in the Office of Teaching and Learning for the last 12 years. As I completed both my MA and PhD at DU, all tallied I have spent more than 20 years with this university, and I have had a really great run here.

In my many roles, I have had the true privilege to work with DU faculty and staff members on projects as detailed as creating a new class assignment, to complicated endeavors such as supporting efforts to create new ways of evaluating teaching. I am especially proud of the many relationships I’ve developed here at DU, as well as many of our initiative and programs, such as the Teaching@DU Short Course for Newly-Hired Faculty, the Course Design Institute, our Teaching Aspirations work, the Faculty Leaning Communities, and the many, many fascinating discussions I have been able to have about teaching and learning.

However, it’s time for me to take a break, spend time with my teen/tweens while they are still around, and explore some other ventures and interests. I plan to shift to contract work in the teaching/learning/evaluation field, finish up some ongoing studies and projects, and will continue to teach a few courses at DU, so you will still see my face around campus!

I am committed to ensuring a smooth transition, so I will be around for most of the fall quarter. I will be on-campus through the first week of October and finishing up projects and reports through the end of that month.

I have learned so much and developed a lifelong fondness for this University and those who spend time here. I have worked with tremendously talented colleagues and feel very positive about the learning environments that DU students are able to experience here. I know the OTL will continue to thrive and develop truly impressive programs and initiatives with our current amazing OTL staff, under the guidance of Kate Willink and with our incoming new staff members.

If you are able, feel free to stop by the Mountain Room (Ruffatto Hall 401) on October 2nd, from 3-5 pm for an informal farewell gathering.

Please don’t hesitate to keep in touch.

Bridget
