Student response systems allow instructors to get immediate feedback from their students during class activities. The University of Denver supports both TurningPoint and TopHat as student response system vendors.
TurningPoint software allows students to purchase a hardware device, or clicker, as part of their course materials, or use their mobile device or laptop to respond to questions at the instructor’s discretion. It also allows for assignments outside of the lecture period.
Top Hat is a student response system that is cloud-based and does not require a hardware purchase: instead, it uses students’ existing internet-enabled devices: mobile phones, tablets, or laptops. It also allows for assignments outside of the lecture period.
Both Turning Point and Top Hat integrate with Canvas, the university’s Learning Management System, so that faculty can use these systems for graded assessments and have this data show in the Canvas Gradebook.
