The Teaching with Canvas Short Course is a new addition to the OTL signature programming. This is a self-paced two-week intensive online course designed to support faculty members in advancing their Canvas skills. This course requires foundational knowledge of Canvas and will offer advanced skills and strategies for faculty interested in taking their teaching to the next level. If you are brand-new to using Canvas, we encourage you to sign up for a Canvas Coaching session or one-on-one consultation to consider if this course is the right fit for you.
WHAT IS THE TEACHING WITH CANVAS SHORT COURSE?
The Teaching with Canvas Short Course introduces advanced tools and features in Canvas while providing strategies for integrating them into your teaching. The course focuses on Canvas design elements, accessibility, collaborative learning, assessment options, and navigating assignment feedback. The course will take place asynchronously on Canvas. The course requires a basic level of Canvas knowledge, however, there is no prerequisite for the course. You are encouraged to sign up for a one-on-one consultation to consider if the course is the right fit for you.
All classes, even if there is a face-to-face component, will require a robust online presence, and the resources and tools in this course will help with the creation of those components. This course is designed to provide you with an introduction to advanced tools and features in Canvas. Your main goal is to explore the content and add tools and strategies to your Teaching Toolkit. Our hope is that this course will challenge you to consider your own teaching philosophy around using an LMS with your teaching and walk away with a better understanding on how to integrate Canvas tools in your course(s).
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Design their Canvas course container to align with best practices for course design.
- Identify one advanced Canvas feature that you will use in your teaching from each category: course design, accessibility, collaborative learning, and assessment and feedback.
- Add tools and strategies to their teaching and learning toolkit.
