The Teaching with Canvas Short Course contains readings, assignments, and multimedia to help participants learn how to design and facilitate courses using Canvas effectively. The course takes place on Canvas, DU’s primary learning management system (LMS), so that participants can experience the structure of a course as a student. All classes, even if there is a face-to-face component, will require a robust online presence, and the resources and tools in this course will help with the creation of those components. This course is designed to provide you with an introduction to advanced tools and features in Canvas. Your main goal is to explore the content and add tools and strategies to your Teaching Toolkit. Our hope is that this course will challenge you to consider your own teaching philosophy around using an LMS with your teaching and walk away with a better understanding on how to integrate Canvas tools in your course(s).
Objectives:
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Design their Canvas course container to align with best practices for course design.
- Identify one advanced Canvas feature that you will use in your teaching from each category: course design, accessibility, collaborative learning, and assessment and feedback.
- Add tools and strategies to their teaching and learning toolkit.
