Qualitative research at times requires audio transcripts for analysis. This document outlines steps on how to record, edit, and download the transcript with timecodes and speaker names. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Option A: Using a phone voice recorder app<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

- Use iPhone Voice Memo<\/a> or Google Pixel Voice Record<\/a> to record your face-to-face interview.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Transfer the audio file from your phone to your computer.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Go to your Canvas<\/strong> course -> My Media<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Press Add New<\/strong> -> Media Upload<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Upload your audio file. Give your recording a clear title.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Wait. For a 1-hour long recording, wait 2 hours for the transcript. <\/li>\n\n\n\n

- Use the DU Zoom portal <\/a>and create a meeting. DU Zoom allows for unlimited meeting duration and cloud recordings. Do not use the free version of Zoom<\/strong>, it has limited features. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Follow the Using ZOOM to Record an Interview Video<\/a> instructions. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
- You will need to add speaker names to your transcript files during editing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- All Zoom recordings end up in your DU MediaSpace and Canvas My Media.<\/li>\n\n\n\n

- Transcript files can take up to 1 hour for a 1 hour video\/audio file.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Go to Canvas -> My Media<\/strong> -> Edit icon<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Go the the Captions tab<\/strong> and click Edit Captions <\/strong>button.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Edit the transcript.\u00a0 <\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Add the speaker’s name to the transcript each time a new speaker starts talking. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Press Save<\/strong> regularly during editing. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Press Back<\/strong> when done.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
