Foundations of Teaching is an introductory course designed for early career faculty members. With a focus on building a strong foundation in effective teaching practices, the program covers essential topics such as student-centered teaching, course design, student engagement, assessment strategies, inclusive teaching methods, the teacher-scholar model, and university citizenship. Upon completion of the course’s five modules, faculty receive the Foundations of Teaching badge.
Faculty who are new to DU will be enrolled in this course as part of their New Faculty Academy curriculum. Participation in this course is open to all full-time faculty regardless of rank or series.

Modality
The Foundations of Teaching course is housed in DU’s LMS, Canvas, and involves both modules that can be completed within the LMS as well as requirements to engage with OTL programming and/or services to complete individual competencies.
Time Commitment
This is a self-paced program which may be completed over the course of a year.
Badge
Faculty who complete the course will receive a Foundations of Teaching Program Badge from the Office of Teaching and Learning
