What are Micro-credential and Badging Programs?

Micro-credentials and badging programs offer faculty unique opportunities for professional development. These programs are designed to recognize and validate specific skills and competencies for today’s educators. The badges serve as representations of these achievements and can be easily shared on professional networks, showcasing one’s skills to colleagues and potential collaborators.

Our programs offer flexibility, allowing faculty to complete courses at their own pace and often online. They are particularly valuable in helping educators stay current with the latest teaching methodologies and technological advancements. Whether you’re looking to advance in your current role or explore new areas of interest, micro-credentials and digital badges at DU provide a practical and recognized way to demonstrate your capabilities.

Course Level-High Impact Practices (CL-HIPs) Program

The Course-Level High-Impact Practices (CL-HIPs) program is a micro-credential program designed to support DU faculty in their journey to creating courses that are engaging, inclusive, and impactful learning experiences. This program explores broader High- Impact Practices but really focuses in on the 8 Key Elements of HIPs (Kuh & O’Donnell, 2013) to provide faculty with a framework for designing and implementing these practices in their courses.

This program provides a structured pathway to develop your skills in this area through three badging levels: Foundational, Intermediate, and Advanced. Each level progressively builds on the last, allowing you to deepen your knowledge and practical abilities. As you complete the requirements for each tier, you’ll earn digital badges – a shareable and verifiable record of your work to showcase your achievements.

Teaching for Inclusion and Equity (TIE)

The Teaching Inclusion and Equity (TIE) micro-credential program empowers DU faculty to transform their teaching practices through focused development of inclusive pedagogies. Faculty participants engage in a blend of self-directed learning and collaborative reflection aimed at creating more equitable classroom experiences.

The TIE program offers two levels of credentials to support faculty in advancing equity in their teaching. The Foundational Badge helps faculty develop skills to respond to bias, facilitate dialogue around race and equity, and create inclusive classroom environments that honor diverse identities. Building on this work, the Intermediate Badge guides faculty in designing classroom-based research projects that address social justice issues while developing an equity-minded approach to identifying and removing barriers faced by underserved students. Throughout the program, faculty explore practical, discipline-specific strategies and examine systemic factors that affect student success.

Upon meeting program requirements, participants receive digital credential recognition, demonstrating their commitment to fostering learning environments where all students can thrive. This professional development opportunity aligns with DU’s institutional values of inclusion, diversity, and educational excellence.
